Yesterday I attended an all day workshop at Leeds Art Gallery, regarding an opportunity that has been given to a few of us on Viscom, to spend the next few months learning about how to be a gallery curator and eventually curate our own exhibition in one of the main rooms at the gallery. The exhibition will be on at the end of June/early July, and will be put on in conjunction with a Damien Hirst exhibition. We have to study the work of Hirst, choose a theme to match this, then curate an exhibition of work (chosen from the gallery’s vast collection of artworks). It’s a really great opportunity, and would be amazing to have on my CV and use references from. The woman taking the workshop is head of education at the gallery, and we also have occasional talks from a man called Nigel, head curator of contemporary art exhibitions at the gallery.
